All our dogs will be placed with a fosterer until they are found a permanent home. Through the fostering process we hope to gain an understanding of each dogs needs which will lead to the best possible matched home.

The Adoption Process

Think about it. Adopting a dog is a life changing decision. Please take time to consider carefully

  • Is your home and lifestyle suitable?

  • If your home is rented do you have the landlords written permission to keep dogs?

  • Do you have the time not only to give the dog exercise three times a day but also the patience and commitment for training?

  • Considered the financial cost?

  • There are vet bills, insurance, food, flee and worming treatment, coats, bedding , lead/harness, bowls, toys, dog guard etc

  • Where will you be 5 or ten years from now?

  • As you and your family grow and change you have to consider if you have the long term commitment that is needed when adopting a dog?

  • What arrangements will you make while you are on holiday or away over night?

  • What will you do if the dog has the odd accident in the house?

Our dogs are not to be worked or exploited for gain in any way. They are only available to home as pets. If at any time we feel that the dog is not being given proper care and attention we will have the right to repossess the dog back into Gracehounds care.

Once you have completed and returned your application form we will arrange a home check visit.  Time will be spent discussing your home, lifestyle and expectations of owning a greyhound.  When a suitable dog has been selected then we would expect you to meet on several occasions so that the bonding process can begin.  This should hopefully be of benefit to you and your new dog.  Once at home there will be a further visit at four weeks.  Gracehounds does ask for a donation when a dog is re-homed.
